I went into Superdrug today solely to buy new shampoo and conditioner and somehow managed to spend over £40 on cosmetics as well. Isn't it always the way? I blame the 3 for 2 offer they are currently having on all cosmetics.
Someone got a bit excited by new make up...
The first thing I picked up was actually something I did need to buy. I was running out of primer and just wanted one to tide me over for the moment until I can invest in the Smashbox one I have been eyeing for a while. I was intrigued by the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser so I decided to give it a go. It comes in a tube with a small nozzle top and the product itself has a smooth gel-like consistency (like other silica-based primers). I found it alarming that the tube had "only for adults" written on it and I found myself questioning why they had to state that and whether I qualified! I had to look up online for whether this primer might have weird side effects which make it only suitable for older people but this does not seem to be the case. It's more likely that the company were worried consumers might take the name Baby Skin a bit too literally and apply it to children instead of for its proper purpose.
The next thing I bought was a new liquid eyeliner. I am yet to find one that I totally love and decided to give L'Oreal's Super Liner Ultra Precision a go. It definitely does have a thin precision tip which feels more like a sponge than a brush (but it is nowhere near like the marker tips you can find, it is much thinner and more flexible) and I do really like it. It is sturdy enough to keep a solid line but flexible enough to follow the curve of your eyelid. One thing I LOVE about the eyeliner is that it does not drag. At all. No more disconnected eyeliner lines than end up looking messy and horrible! But I do have one complaint about the eyeliner. For me, the eyeliner is just not black enough. It starts off fairly strongly but will fade to a grey-black halfway through application. Now this may just be me being super fussy and annoying but it does let the product down a bit for me. I did have swatches and pictures of the eyeliner tip to show you but they've disappeared from my camera which is very frustrating!
Another product that I can't show you up close is the L'Oreal False Lash Flutter mascara that I bought. This is because I have lots of mascaras already in use at the moment and I want to use them up before I open any more, otherwise they dry up and it's such a waste of money. Talking of a waste of money, why am I buying more mascara despite having an abundant selection of opened and unopened ones already? Because I am an addict, that's why. I was fascinated by the 'Butterfly Effect' that this mascara is meant to achieve. It promises to provide fuller, fanned out lashes which is exactly what I want. I'll report back whether it keeps that promise or not.
Next we have the new Revlon Brow Fantasy. My brows are another thing I'm dissatisfied with at the moment. The brow pencil I'm using now is from Rimmel and I am finding it really hit and miss. I loved my Anastasia Brow Wiz but it is quite expensive and not very easy for me to find in England so I wanted to see if I could find a good high street brow product to use for now. I love how this comes with a pencil and gel in one product.
Next I have a lot of lip products to show you. They were all pretty shades that I did not already have in my collection.
Maybelline Moisture Renew in 180 "Vintage Pink".
A soft purple-ish pink that is very easy to wear during the day.
Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in Nova
A baby pink that I can actually pull off! Not extremely blue-toned so does not clash with my skin-tone
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Smoked Peach (Matte)
Pretty much as the name states- a matte peach colour. It would like especially nice on lighter skin but I'm determined to make it work for me
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Mink (Creme)
A brown lipstick which is not too light or too dark. I think it would suit most skintones. It makes a good slightly-darker-than-skintone nude colour for me but would also look awesome as a dark lip colour on olive skin and maybe even paler skins (especially as a kind of gothic look)
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Blushed (Pearl)
Pink-toned nude, verging on the brown side. This, again, would suit most skintones
From top to bottom: Smoked Peach, Mink, Blushed
I hope you enjoyed this Superdrug haul! Let me know what your favourite product was or give me recommendations for other high street products to check out.
