My Summer Reading List

Exams are on the horizon which makes this the prime time for revising. Naturally, therefore, I want to do everything but sit and study. Mainly, I want to read. I want to read something for fun, something that does not involve big words or technical terms I have to Google the definitions of; something fictional. So I've sat here attempting to revise for the past few weeks (it's not been very successful in all honesty) and thinking about what books I cannot wait to read once all these rubbish exams are over! So in legendary Kira-style procrastination, I decided to write a list of them all. I'm a list person, I love lists.

1. The Night Circus- Erin Morgenstern
This book has been staring at me from my shelf for months. Not only is the blurb very interesting with a mixture of magic, mystery and romance promised, but the book cover is intriguing!
2. Divergent (series)- Veronica Roth
I refuse to watch the film before I've read the books and I'm desperate to see the film so this has to be done ASAP.
3. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children- Ransom Riggs (I really hope that's his real name)
This one looks dark and creepy and I can't wait. It even features photo pages which adds a visual element to the book which is definitely a bit different. It's also about weird, freaky children. I love to fear weird freaky children.
4. Never Let Me Go- Kazuo Ishiguro
I will admit that I only know about this book because of the film BUT this is the only film-adapted book in this list which I heard about because of the film and not the other way around. The others I have wanted to read for months, maybe even years but never had the time. I have a huge to-read list to get through! (That had to be said for any die-hard book fanatics who scorn anyone who has not read cult books but dares to watch their films, how dare we)
5. The Mortal Instruments (series)- Cassandra Clare
The reasoning for this series' appearance on the list is the same as any other film-adapted book other than Never Let Me Go, I need to read the books before I can watch the film.
6. Stravaganza (series)- Mary Hoffman
The books are not to be confused with those of Cassandra Clare. They have 'City of-' titles too, but they are a completely separate series. I read the first in the series years ago but never got around to finding the rest in the series. It's been so long I'm probably going to have to re-read the first book but I remember loving it.
7. A Clockwork Orange- Anthony Burgess
I've been meaning to read this book for ages and never got around to it.
I used to study psychology at school and my teacher used to reference this book when we were studying clinical psychology. It sounded really interesting and has been recommended to me by so many people that I have to check it out.
9. Forbidden- Tabitha Suzuma
This is the kind of book you really hope you are not caught reading in public and asked what it is about. It's nothing "Fifty Shades of Grey"-esque (well I hope not!) but it undoubtedly has controversial subject matter. This book keeps appearing in reading lists so I thought I'd give it a go.
10. Starcrossed- Josephine Angelini
Another book I've had sitting on my book shelf waiting patiently to be read.
Another soon-to-be-film-adapted one. Although, from the blurb of the second book I gather that the main character is called Kira, which also makes me want to read this more. I get irrationally excited about book/film characters being called Kira (unless it's a Japanese film/book, in which case the bad guy is commonly called Kira).
12. The Maze Runner- James Dashner
Yes another book-turned-film, I can't help it. I am seriously behind on my leisure reading.
13. Go Ask Alice- Beatrice Sparks
So this book is on drugs. Literally, it's written from a first person perspective on drug-taking. Although perhaps a controversial topic, it is still an fascinating one.
14. If I Stay- Gayle Foreman
This book is another emotional roller coaster-type book which I cannot wait to read. There is a film based on this book coming out in August which does also look amazing from the trailer. Chloe Grace Moretz is the lead role and I pretty much love her as an actress, how is she younger than me and just so much cooler already?! But seriously, go watch the trailer.

So that is my summer books bucket list. It's crazy long! Considering most of those books are series, I'm pretty certain I won't finish this entire list but I will sure try. What's even more shocking is that there are so many books that I want to read other than those on this list. It's never ending either since there are always new books that I want to add to my reading list.

There seems to be some recurring themes in my summer reading list though. Fantasy, death, disturbing and emotional seem to be key features of most of these books, which makes me look like a very troubled person! I assure you I am not and I do read other types of books but right now those are the types that I am drawn to. Knowing me, I'll probably add more books to this list later which are a completely different type of book!

If you have any book suggestions based off this list, or completely different to the ones mentioned, please let me know in the comments below!
