This month I have been keeping track of the things I have loved using to make it super easy when September came around and I could do an August Favourites post.
I'd like to include a range of different items in this post which are beauty and lifestyle related, since that's the style of my blog. It wouldn't feel right to only take about beauty products because I have been excited by so much more than just cosmetics this month.
Make Up...
Illamasqua Highlighter Brush I have found this brush so useful for a multitude of things. I love using this to apply liquid foundation (I've used it with Illamasqua's Skin Base in SB13), but it can also be used for highlight and contour, blush, powder and much more. The hair is synthetic but extremely soft so it feels like a dream against your skin. I'm so glad I own this brush, it takes the place of so many other brushes in your personal kit.
Real Techniques Expert Face Brush Before I owned Illamasqua's highlighting brush, this was my foundation brush of choice and I still love it now when I don't want to use the highlighter brush. It buffs foundation into your skin for a flawless application. It's such a good brush to have and is pretty inexpensive as brushes go.
Rimmel Soft Kohl Eye Pencil in 011 Sable Brown This month I've moved away from black eyeliner in my waterline for the softer finish of a brown liner. As much as I love how dramatic and smokey black eyeliner looks on me, it's been nice to switch it up a little bit.
EOS Lipbalm in Honeydew This has been a great lip balm to carry around with me as it's fun to apply and the formula is smooth but not heavy so it's great for everyday use.
Maybelline Master Glaze in Plums Up 60 This is a cream blush stick which I have found so convenient this month. It takes no time at all to swipe this over your cheeks and blend in with your fingers to add a bit of colour to your cheeks. I love this plum colour on me, especially since my skin has tanned a bit.
MAC Sheered Pressed Powder in NC45 This has been my go-to powder for a very long time. It sits nicely on top of foundation, adding slightly more coverage when you need it but not so heavy that it looks cakey on the face. Sometimes, when my skin is being well-behaved, I can skip foundation and comfortably go out in just concealer and powder on top. NC45 is the exact shade for my skin which is always impressive since most companies are not very accomodating for very dark or very light skin tones.
Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in 050 London Posh I have already devoted a blog post to these babies but I had to give a quick shout out to this particular shade. It has been my go-to toned down, neutral-ish shade this month.
Smashbox Camera Ready Full Coverage Concealer in 6 This concealer has been amazing for me this month. It has hidden my very bad skin days (which have been quite frequent this month) and doesn't do a bad job at covering dark circles either. It is so handy since it comes in a stick format which is travel-friendly and easy to apply to the face.
Book...
Divergent by Veronica Roth Oh my word this book. Just wow. I loved the storyline. There are so many twists and turns that keep it interesting and it was multifaceted which gave it complexity and made it so much more interesting to read. I think the main character is amazing. To me, she seems different to typical female protagonists in novels which I think is refreshing. I don't want to say to much about it in case I give anything away but I just really enjoyed this book. I'm currently reading the sequel Insurgent!
Music...
Sleep by 2Pac An old song but one I've been listening to a lot this month. I go through phases of skipping songs that come on shuffle and then listening to them loads again, this is one such example.
Youth by Foxes This songs makes me want twirl around and skip through forests in slow motion.
Dangerous Love by Fuse ODG ft. Sean Paul I love dancing to this song. I'm a sucker for afrobeats on a night out. You can really go all out with your moves to that sort of music!
The Wrong Direction by Passenger I bought Passenger's album in August and this song really stands out. I can relate to the words and think that the song is written well. The tune is really catchy too.
Love Runs Out by OneRepublic Another really catchy song.
Dressed in Black by Sia I turn this song up ridiculously loud whenever it comes on my iPod. The power and emotion in Sia's voice is amazing and this song from her "1000 Forms of Fear" album has just attached itself to me. I just love it.
Films...
Captain America 1 and 2 I finally got around to watching these and I think Captain America has become my favourite superhero. I prefer the superheroes who weren't born with super powers but earned them because they are good people to begin with.
Food...
Smith's Salt and Shake Crisps Bit of a weird one but I enjoy eating these without the salt in them. Plain crisps is actually surprisingly nice!
Lacta Chocolate Lacta is a Greek chocolate brand which I absolutely love. Whenever our friends from Greece come over they always bring some for us because they know it's my favourite. We recently had some stocked up in the house and when I found them...well... let's just say they didn't last long.
Miscellaneous...
Illamasqua 5 Day Professional Make Up Course In the last week of August I attended Illasmqua's Make Up School for an intensive professional make up course and I can honestly say it's one of the best things I have ever done. I met the most lovely people. Instructors, staff and other students were all incredibly friendly and helpful. By the end of the week I felt close and comfortable with everyone there. I learned so much in those 5 days and talking to people who have experience in this industry was invaluable help for someone like me who is starting out. I won't be doing a full blog post on it though since I haven't asked Illamasqua for permission to talk about it and do not want to get in trouble with them.
So those are my August favourites, be sure to tell me what your favourite things about August were!
Love love love!
