Revlon recently came out with their own take on the glossy lip stain and it has certainly got my attention. The idea of a stain which is also moisturising and glossy does seem like a bit of an oxymoron so I wanted to investigate whether it could be done.
You may already know of the L'Oreal Paris Glam Shine Stain Splashes which are similar in that they also aim to achieve a less matte stain finish, however I would say that those give more of a sheen to the lips and not the full gloss effect of the Revlon alternatives. That's not to say I don't like the L'Oreal ones, I really love them, but it depends on what you are looking for in your lip stain.
The first thing that occurred to me about the Revlon stain was the formula. It is very thick, which I did not expect. The thickness does affect how easily it can be applied to the lips, with the applicator alone unable to effectively give an even coat. I find that rubbing my lips together does smooth the gloss out, but this is not ideal (especially when applying to clients).
The thickness, in my opinion, is what makes the stain so glossy and I personally do not mind the thick formula but I do think that people who have an aversion to stickier lipglosses will find this hard to deal with.
The formula is also very opaque, offering a good colour pay-off which lasts, earning this product the right to be called a stain. Obviously the usual wear of eating and drinking occurs but this is an easy product to reapply without looking messy.
The shade range is also very impressive with 11 shades, most of which I am currently lusting over. I currently own London Posh (Light beige pink)and Rio Rush (bubblegum pink), but I have my sights set on Parisian Passion and Barcelona Nights too.

Finally, let's talk about the packaging. It's sleek, it's glossy and it shows the colour of the product inside (which is extremely helpful!). I also like how the bent heart-shaped applicator is slightly flexible to ensure easy application.
Overall I am pleased with these lip gloss stains because they are definitely vibrant but wearable with their glossy finish. I would say it is quite a safe bet in terms of trying something new if you can handle the sticky formula and there is sure to be a shade to please everyone in their amazing colour range. They take no effort to apply either which is so important for busy people who need to be able to reapply their make up quickly and on the go. I most definitely plan to pick up a few more in the future!
